Thanksgiving weekend in the hospital

After a good week of treatment, Carolyn was admitted to the hospital Thursday when she began to lose more liquids than she could take in - mostly due to diarrhea, which is a common side-effect of the chemotherapy. Jeff watched her (and a little football) while the rest of the family was in Panguitch for the holiday. Friday, she was diagnosed with a blood infection, and today (Saturday), she is complaining of being out of breath.

She and Jeff have, as you know, been very appreciative of our prayers and exercises of faith in their behalf. They have felt a strong sense of support, and they never fail to be thankful for all that is done for them. Please continue to keep them in your minds and hearts and prayers this weekend.

Carolyn,

I don't visit too many blogs because I have a hard enough time keeping up with my own, but Mariellen has been a dear to keep us informed, and I'm glad to send a greeting today.

Your journey seems very similar to my sister Leslie's. She was treated for cancer a few years ago at Huntsman's. I know it's hard, and I remember there were times she didn't want to go on...

She is doing wonderfully now! What's that saying? "This too shall pass." And it will!

You are including in Sterling's and my prayers, along with thousands of family and friends who love you.

Warm wishes,
Shelli

Oh, not the most ideal place to be for Thankgiving without most of your family. But what a great place the hospital can be when you are needing care beyond what home offers. I was home cooking this Thanksgiving and Dave took the 2 older boys to the movie (baby slept for a couple of hours), so, I had a lot of time to think about what I am so thankful for, while puttering in the kitchen. One of those many things was/is you. Following your journey on your blog has been such an inspiration. I am Thankful for you! Hang in there...we love ya!

Carolyn, I had so much fun spending two days with you!! I hope I can do it again! I finished baby Gabe's stocking today. I miss you! Your attitude during this whole process is really inspiring to me. I loved watching you interact with all of the people at the clinic who are working there. Your interest in them is so sincere and kind. You are a great friend and example to me. Hang in there!! When you get better let's plan a trip.

Carolyn,
I know that Heavenly Father is constantly watching over you and I know that he knows exactly how you feel when no one else does. We love you and pray for you always. I remember feeling like we were convicts in a prison, really enjoying being home and dreading the hospital return. Try to laugh as much as possible,(good for the immune system), and keep drinking your "Kool-Aid," aka red blood cells. You've done it! It's all up from here.

Syd - one suggestion, people have mentioned that they can't leave a comment for carolyn unless they have a blog account or google account. If you go into the settings, you can change who can leave comments by changing the preferences to allow comments from all sources, not just google. I would suggest you let anyone make comments because most people don't know how to use blogs. Thanks! We want everyone to be able to let Carolyn know how much we love and pray for her.

Sister Owens;

I admire your strength. I remember when you said that we all have our challenges in life and that this one is yours. I had a cousin who suffered from cancer and the effects of chemo therapy. I admire your strength and know that you are always in our prayers.

Love,
Jaron Miner (106th ward)

Sister Owens,

I just wanted you and your family to know that my apartment and I pray every evening together, and we always make sure to remember you. when we do so.

Trevor Rosenlof

Sister Ownes,

I've only met you once and it was at the beginning of the semester. But, I continue to think of you and your family during this time and include you in my prayers. I know that families are eternal and that this life is a great opportunity that we have to pass through trials to prepare us to be more like our Savior. You are very much an example to me through a distance. I know that you are a great strength to your family and that this experience will help you to come closer to your Savior. I will continue to pray on your behalf, knowing that our Father in Heaven is very aware of everything that you and your family stand in need of at this time. God bless!

Dear Sister Owens,
You and your family both have been blessed with so much faith. I'm grateful for your examples. When I was a missionary in Hawaii, we had an investigator named Connie that was also receiving Chemo and she had the same opportunity you have to increase her faith. I know your Father is and will continue to carry you. Thank you again for your example!

I have been praying for you so much and for your family as well! I hope you can feel His help and strength and also the love this ward has for you. Your husband talked to me the other week about my upcoming marriage and he spoke so highly of you. He told me how you met and of your wonderful relationship and friendship, what a great example that is to me. I know that there are many people that you have had such a great influence on so many people in this ward through your faithful example of courage and strength. I hope that you can have peace and the comfort of the spirit.

Hi Carolyn--Some of us just don't get this computer stuff too readily--I've tried before but gave up--maybe this time I "get it." You looked so great last Sunday when I saw you at church! Your sweet smile has always been endearing to everyone. I can't imagine living your trial, but I know Heavenly Father knows and He is with you now and will be throughout your treatments. Medical treatment is amazing and how our bodies function and react to it is even more so. David and I think of you often and pray for you to have the necessary strength to endure. Everyone misses you, loves you and remembers your soft, sincere kindnesses to all of us. I know you are facing each day with courage and faith and you are being blessed through the love, care and prayers of family and friends. We love you- David and Joan

Carolyn- Thanks to some coaching from the Relief Society I think I finally know how to look at someone's blog! It was so nice to see you at the Wadsworths and how cute your hair is! Your smile and warmth always brighten any visit. I was so lucky to have you as my visiting teacher, I miss that even though I have great ones now too. Knowing you as a friend, I am impressed with the way you are handling this incredibly difficult trial. You may not realize how your faith in handling this inspires many others going through difficulties on a much smaller scale also. I want you to know you're in my thoughts and prayers, especially this past week. Among the things I am thankful for, one of them is knowing you and your family and the example you set of living the gospel. I look forward to your complete recovery and joining you and Syd on the trip she's planning (ha). Take care, keep smiling and know how much we love you- Jan

Carolyn!! Hello! I'm sorry I haven't really kept in touch even though I'm like... your neighbor. The other day I thought of the time where we talked about grandma and fireworks.....and how you called me later in the day and reminded me it was firecrackers. Or was it fireworks? Anyway, that was so funny! I don't think I've laughed so hard in forever. And don't you be setting off some firecrackers yourself...haha. Carolyn, I'm sorry you're so far away from us but I hope you feel our love for you. Thanks for being who you are. :)I'm totally looking forward to seeing you again and you telling me that we're gonna skip my birthday this year. I won't fall for it this year... I'm much older. haha.. Thats a joke! Well, again, we all are thinking of you and miss you being in our presence!! I love you!!

Hi Carolyn, this is Lisa Hannemann and the girls. We just wanted to tell you how much we love you. We feel like you are a kindred spirit to us and are an inspiration to us all.
For Thanksgiving we went up to Bear Lake and ate until we were sick and then went to the mountains the next day and chopped down Christmas trees. There is nothing like fresh mountain air.
Dave is doing well in Iraq. He had a vanilla shake for the first time and was very happy about it.
Carolyn, we love you...remember,it is almost Christmas and then you are home free for a couple of months. I know God is aware of all of us and especially you at this time. What a blessing to have a new grandbaby! Family is a wonderful gift. Keep the faith and remember our prayers are with you.
